Cross Country teams ranked high in preseason regional poll

The Centre men's and women's cross country teams were ranked first and 10th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason regional cross country rankings for NCAA Division III.

On the men's side the Colonels received the first place ranking in the South/Southeast Region, while Lynchburg College was chosen second and Trinity (Tex.) University was tabbed to finish third.

Centre took sixth place last season in the region and the Colonels are returning four of their top five runners. A strong freshman class will also help Centre in hopefully having a successful season.

The Centre women's team was ranked 10th in the South/Southeast Region poll following a successful 2009 campaign. Rhodes, Emory, and Lynchburg were chosen as the top three schools in the preseason poll.

Although the Colonels lost two of their top five runners, they did return three top runners and are returning several upperclassmen to help lead them through the upcoming season.

The NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships meet will take place on Saturday, November 13 in Memphis, Tenn.

Both the Centre men's and women's cross country seasons will start on Saturday, September 4 in Sewanee, Tenn. at the Sewanee Invitational.
