Volleyball Rebounds Against Oglethorpe
The Centre Volleyball Team was generally tough when the going got tough at Oglethorpe, and won in four sets this afternoon, Head Coach James Neyhouse welcomed the victory, but noted that, "Under the 'new' rules, we are permitted to build an early lead and then to build on that lead all the way to 25. However, I am pleased that we were strong at the end of the games; but, as we have seen, you cannot always simply 'turn it on' on request."
Multipurpose performances were given by junior Catherine Janszen (Cincinnati, OH) with 10 digs, eight kills, and four aces; and Suzanne Asbury, the sophomore from Louisville, KY, who had seven blocks, 11 kills, and one ace. In strong support were senior Jenna Foushee (Louisville, KY) with 18 digs; junior Kary Stivers (Louisville, KY), who contributed 23 assists and two service aces; and Celia Moser, the Troy, OH sophomore, whose defensive work at the net included four blocks.
Now it's on to Piedmont for a non-conference contest tomorrow. "So far," according to Coach Neyhouse, "no other team has willingly surrendered to us; and I am confident that Piedmont will be no exception. It's not league competition, but it is important that we maintain our focus. We want to leave Georgia with winning momentum." Such a stimulus, coupled with the fact that all but one of the Colonels' remaining eight matches will be played in Danville, could be a boost for the Colonels' post-season work.
