Colonels fall to DePauw and Defiance in volleyball action
One day after dropping a pair of matches on day one of the Rose-Hulman Tournament, Centre fell to DePauw and Defiance on day two Sunday, Sept. 9 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Colonels lost in three games to DePauw. After dropping game one 25-13, it took extra points for the Tigers to win game two 27-25. DePauw then won game three 25-22 for the 3-0 victory.
Junior Catherine Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 17 digs, nine kills and one service ace. Freshman Abbigale Jacobi (Louisville, Ky.) recorded six kills and one ace and freshman Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished with 15 assists and eight digs.
Centre dropped game one 25-19 to Defiance in its second match of the day and final match of the tournament. The Colonels bounced back with a dominating 25-8 win in game two. The Yellow Jackets won game three 27-25, and Centre answered again with a 25-17 win in game four. Defiance proved to be too much winning game five 15-10 for the 3-2 win.
Junior Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, Tenn.) posted 12 kills, two blocks and one ace. Sophomore Suzanne Asbury (Louisville, Ky.) notched 12 kills and eight blocks. Senior Jenna Foushess (Louisville, Ky.) had 13 digs, while junior Kary Sitvers (Louisville, Ky.) finished with 22 assists, four digs, two blocks and two aces.
Centre, now 1-7 overall, will play is first Southern Athletic Association match Saturday, Sept. 15 against Berry College. The match is set to start at 2 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
