Centre volleyball chosen to finish sixth in preseason SCAC poll

After finishing the 2009 season with their first 20 plus win season since 2004 the Centre volleyball team was chosen to finish sixth in the preseason SCAC poll. The Colonels finished the 2009 season with a 21-15 overall record and a 9-10 record in the SCAC.

Two seniors and four juniors are hoping to lead the 2010 Colonels to another successful season. The Colonels will have a tough conference schedule as three of the teams are ranked in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll.

Colorado College, for the first time since joining the league in 2007, was selected as the preseason favorite to win the SCAC volleyball championship as they collected 126 points and seven first place votes. Last season Colorado finished with an overall record of 35-5 and a conference record of
12-2.

Trinity came in second place in the poll with 120 points and three first place votes, while defending SCAC champion, Southwestern was tabbed to finish in third as they received 111 points and two first place votes.

DePauw took fourth place with 96 points and Austin was chosen to finish in fifth with 83 points.

Behind the Colonels in the poll was Millsaps in seventh place with 56 points and in eighth was Rhodes with 55 points. Hendrix collected 35 points to put them in ninth place and Oglethorpe took tenth place as they gathered 33 points. Rounding out the poll in eleventh was Sewanee with 12 points.

The 2010 SCAC Conference Tournament will take place Nov. 5 and 6 in San Antonio, Tex. at Trinity University.

Centre opens the season on Wednesday, September 1 as they host Mount Saint Joseph at 7:00 p.m. in Danville Ky. at Alumni Gymnasium.
