Women's tennis falls to Colorado College, defeats Hendrix in SCAC Championships
The Centre women's tennis team split a pair of matches, falling 8-1 to Colorado College before defeating Hendrix 9-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Championships on Friday in North Little Rock, Ark.
The Colonels opened play with the loss to Colorado College. Elise Decamp (Lexington, Ky.) picked up Centre's only win by defeating Colorado's Katie Patterson 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Centre came back later in the day to sweep Hendrix and claim 11th place in the conference. Decamp teamed up with Kathryn Hays (Lexington, Ky.) to win No. 1 singles 8-2 while Melissa Springer (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Alex Tolsdorf (Crestwood, Ky.) won 8-5 in No. 2 and Jenna Hazelwood (Lebanon, Tenn.) and Rita Basconi (Johnson, City, Tenn.) won 8-1 in No. 3.
In singles play, Hays won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 match while Decamp followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in No. 2. Katie Howard (Frankfort, Ky.) won 6-3, 6-1 in No. 3 while Springer won 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4. The Colonels closed things out with a 6-4, 6-2 win by Tolstorf in No. 5 singles and a 6-1, 6-2 win by Maddie Pitt in No. 6.
