Brannen, Hebbeler named All-Great Lakes Region
Two Centre junior defenders were named to the 2011 NCAA Women's Division III All-Great Lakes Region Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, with Rachel Brannen (Fort Mitchell, Ky.) earning first team honors and Amy Hebbeler (Fort Wright, Ky.) being selected to the second team.
It was the latest in a series of honors for Brannen and Hebbeler. Brannen was also a First Team All-Great Lakes selection last year and was recently named to her third All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team. Hebbeler's selection comes on the heels of being named SCAC Defensive Player of the Year and selected to her second All-SCAC Team.
Both Hebbeler and Brannen were key members of a Colonels' defense that ranked second in the conference with a goals against average of 0.53. With senior Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) in goal, the Centre defense had 14 shutouts on the season and went on separate streaks of five and six games without allowing a goal.
Hebbeler also added three goals and two assists on the offensive end, while Brannen scored two goals.
Centre finished the season with an overall record of 14-5-3 with a 5-2-1 mark in SCAC play. The Colonels made their second NCAA Tournament appearance and advanced past Roanoke in penalty kicks before falling to Emory.
