Centre opened its season with a 13-7 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan in women's lacrosse action Saturday in Danville, Ky.
Freshman Emily Madden (Louisville, Ky.) made her college debut by leading the Colonels with five goals in the game. Sophomores Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) and Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.) picked up where they left off after finishing as the top two goal scorers in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference last year, adding four and three goals respectively in Saturday's win. Mastey also led the team with two assists while Hawthorne added another.
Audrey Powers (Chattanooga, Tenn.) added another goal for Centre while (Claiborne Willis, Nashville, Tenn.) had an assist.
Lauren Esterle (Louisville, Ky.) and Allison Eisner (Louisville, Ky.) split time in goal for the Colonels with Esterle making six saves and Eisner four. Overall, Centre outshot Tennessee Wesleyan 32-20, including a 14-4 edge in the second half.
The Colonels will be back in action again Sunday when they host Alma College at 5 p.m. at Farris Stadium.
