Centre women finish 2nd at Illinois Wesleyan
The Centre women's golf team, ranked fourth in the country in the most recent Golfstat poll, competed in the 2012 Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling this weekend in Normal, Ill. Facing inclement weather and one of the toughest fields of the season, the Colonels finished second with a combined team score of 637 over the two-day tournament.
Third ranked DePauw won the event with a score of 634, three shots ahead of the Colonels. As talented as the field was, DePauw and Centre dominated the leaderboard. Fifth ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire finished third with a score of 655. Birmingham Southern (659) and St. Mary's (660) rounded out the top five. Washington University, ranked second in the country with only one loss on the year, finished 26 shots behind the Colonels at 663.
Individually, senior Emily Bachert (Bowling Green, Ky.) led the way for the Colonels with a score of 156, good for second place overall. Sophomore Allison Hancock (Paris, Ky.) and freshman Michaela Manley (Shelbyville, Ky.) tied for sixth with scores of 160. Junior Whitney Miller (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Alyssa Brown (Chattanooga, Tenn.) rounded out the scoring for Centre with scores of 163 and 170.
The next tournament for the Colonels will begin on April 27 at the SCAC Championship at Tunica G.C. Centre will face stiff competition from Birmingham Southern and Rhodes, both of whom have challenged Centre in multiple tournaments this spring.
