Centre wins DePauw Invite

Despite the driving rain, wind and low temperatures, the Colonels managed to beat highly ranked DePauw by four shots. Centre posted a two-day combined team score of 482, besting the 486 posted by DePauw, as the two teams were all squared over today's nine holes.

Illinois Wesleyan finished third with a two-day score of 493, as Olivet (513) and Wittenberg (518) rounded out the rest of the top five teams.

Individually, Centre had three players finish in the top five. Junior Whitney Miller (Lexington, Ky.) finished third with a two-day score of 117. Senior Emily Bachert (Bowling Green, Ky.) finished fourth with a score of 120. Freshman Alyssa Brown (Chattanooga, Tenn.) shot the low round of the second day for Centre, as her round of 40 was added to yesterday's 81 for a total score of 121, good enough for fifth place. All three players were named to the all-tournament team.

The Colonels' other two players also played well today. Junior Allison Hancock (Paris, Ky.) and freshman Michaela Manley (Shelbyville, Ky.) each shot rounds of 43 to finish at 124 and 125 for the tournament, respectively.

Head coach/director of golf Bruce Brown is impressed with his team's performance this weekend. "Beating DePauw proved to be a huge victory for us. Undoubtedly they have one of the finest programs in the nation," said Brown, who was also impressed with his top scorer of the tournament. "As of late, Whitney Miller has proven that she can play with the best players in the country and compete head to head."

Next up for Centre will be a shorter tournament on more familiar territory, the Centre Fall Invitational at Danville C.C. on October 1.
