Centre swimmer Danielle Wahl completed her swim of the English Channel on Friday, finishing the swim in nine hours and 49 minutes.
Wahl, a junior-to-be from Colorado Springs, Colo., began the 21-mile swim in Dover, England at 9 a.m., reaching the shore in France in just under 10 hours. According to the captain of her escort boat, the Sea Leopard, Wahl's swim was one of the fastest this year and the fastest he had ever accompanied.
During the journey, Wahl had to contend with ocean currents, boat traffic in one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world and water temperatures of 59 degrees. According to the Centre Swimming Twitter account, Wahl also suffered six jellyfish stings during the swim.
In addition to Wahl's accomplishment Friday, she was a standout in the pool for the Colonels as well this season. She earned a Southern Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week award, an NCAA Division III Swimmer of the Week award and was an SAA champion in the mile freestyle and 800-yard freestyle relay.
