Centre swim teams fall to Washington & Lee

The Centre women won eight events at today's meet. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of senior Colleen Maggard (Paris, Ky.), freshman Hadley Judson (Atlanta, Ga.), sophomore Maddie Mescher (Fort Mitchell, Ky.) and sophomore Clark Weber (Louisville, Ky.) set a new Washington & Lee pool record with their combined time of 3:42.46. The record was previously held by the 2008 Centre Colonels.

In addition to the relay win, Maggard also win the 50-yard freestyle and 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Weber won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle. Judson won the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Holly Oatman (Paducah, Ky.) and sophomore Meghan Holliday (Newark, Del.) finished first and second in the 1000-yard freestyle, with .15 seconds separating them.

"We looked tired today. I think the long bus ride yesterday actually caught up to us more today than it did yesterday," said head coach Dean Brownley. "The team competed very well but their arms and legs just weren't there today. We have been training hard and the two meets in a weekend may have been a bit ambitious on my part."

The next meet for the Centre swim teams will be on October 28. They will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. and compete against Division I opponents Butler and IUPUI.
