Colonels run well at Greater Louisville Classic
The Centre men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic today, and both teams fared well against competition from D-I, D-II, D-III and NAIA.
On the men's side, the Colonels finished 14th out of 33 teams with a score of 424 points. Lipscomb University won the men's meet with 119 points.
Individually, sophomore John Kieffer (Dublin, Ohio) ran an outstanding race, finishing in fourth place overall with a time of 25:04.38. Freshman Josh Reiskamp (Cincinnati, Ohio) was Centre's next fastest time, clocking in at 26:09.56. Senior Jack Santos (Topsfield, Mass., 26:26.34), senior Willie Polio (Owensboro, Ky., 26:44.36) and freshman Albert Anastasio (Champaign, Ill., 26:54.39) rounded out the Colonels' top five men's times on the 8k course.
Centre was also able to finish 14th out of 33 men's teams despite an injury to senior Graham Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had scored in all three previous meets but could not compete today.
On the women's side, Centre finished sixth out of 32 schools with a combined team score of 220 points, three points out of fifth place. Missouri State won the women's meet with 38 points.
Individually, four of Centre's five scoring runners were freshmen. Freshmen Ashley El Rady (Louisville, Ky.) and Hannah Ellis (Crestwood, Ky.) each earned honors by finishing in the top 25 on the 5k course. El Rady finished in 18th place with a time of 18:35.79 and Ellis finished 22nd with a time of 18:41.65.
Rounding out the scoring for the Colonels were freshman Emily Akin (Cincinnati, Ohio, 18:54.59), senior Bekah Rehkamp (Florence, Ky., 19:16.39) and freshman Sydney Settle (Owensboro, Ky., 19:31.94).
Next up for Centre Cross Country will be the Southeast Classic in Mount Berry, Ga. on October 22.
