Colonels finish 9th at Anderson

The Centre men's track and field team competed in the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational yesterday at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. Facing competition from multiple divisions, the Colonels scored 24.5 points for the day and finished in ninth place.

Much like last week at the Capital Classic, the Centre men got a big lift from their distance runners. The lone winner for the Colonels yesterday was senior Willie Polio (Owensboro, Ky.), who picked up ten points as he took first place in the 5000m with a time of 15:35.43, over two seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Centre also did well at distance at group competition. The distance medley team of freshmen Jesse Thompson (Lexington, Ky.) and Matt McCurdy (Bartlett, Tenn.), sophomore Cesar Hernandez (Chelsea, Mass.) and senior Graham Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished in second place and scored eight points for the Colonels.

Hernandez was the only Centre athlete to score in multiple events. The sophomore also picked up four points for the Colonels with a fourth place finish in the long jump.

Sophomore Michael Orr (Murray, Ky.) picked up a point and a half in the pole vault and sophomore Nick Niehaus (Mainville, Ohio) scored an additional point in the high jump to round out the scoring for the Colonels.

The next meet for the Colonels will be the Last Chance Indoor Meet on March 2.
