The Centre men's soccer team opened up its weekend road trip with a tough loss on an own goal, falling 1-0 at Kenyon on Friday in Gambier, Ohio.
It was just five minutes into the game when the Colonels conceded the own goal which was credited to Kenyon's Rei Mitsuyama. Centre put together several chances the rest of the way, holding a 9-3 edge in corners with the teams being even in shots on goal, but the 1-0 score held up over the duration of the match.
"We are disappointed again as we concede another own goal in a big game," said Centre head coach Jeb Burch. "That is compounded by our chances to score. We had more dangerous looks to score, and in the end we lose on a mistake in the back. This is a tough one for our guys."
The loss drops Centre to 3-2 on the season while Kenyon improves to 3-2 with the win. The Colonels continue their road trip when they take on Wooster on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
