Centre Men’s Soccer prepares for 2012 spring season
The Centre College Men's Soccer team will begin its 2012 spring season next week.
Over the course of the six-week non-traditional spring season, the Colonels will spend their time preparing for two tough exhibitions on Wednesday, April 11 at Xavier University.
The Colonels will open their spring account on Saturday, April 6 by taking on their Alumni during "Centre Soccer Alumni Weekend". After a 5v5 Co-Ed Tournament on Friday night for the alumni at Danville Indoor, Coach Burch's indoor facility, the Centre Men's Soccer team will take the alums on at 3 p.m. on Saturday on the Bermuda grass game-field.
Following the Alumni game, the Colonels will travel to Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH on April 11 to take on Division III opponent Thomas More College and Division I opponent Xavier University.
Centre played host to Thomas More this past fall, battling to a 0-0 draw. The Saints were crowned champions of the Presidential Athletic Conference (PAC) later that year and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Kick-off for Centre vs. Thomas More at Xavier is set for 6:45 pm.
After their game against Thomas More, the Colonels will play against host Xavier University. Xavier has won back-to-back Atlantic 10 championships, resulting in two straight trips to the NCAA Tournament for Division I. Xavier, who are coached by Andy Fleming, play their games on field turf at the XU Soccer Complex. Kick-off is set for 8:00 pm.
"I think Jeff (Head Coach, Thomas More) and Andy (Head Coach, Xavier University) are great coaches and their teams do well each year. This presents us with a good challenge as we train this spring. Our Alumni are an involved group and we welcome them back to campus. Moreover, playing our alumni first should help us prepare for the challenge that we face in playing Thomas More and Xavier," commented Head Coach Jeb Burch.
