The Centre men's lacrosse team picked up its second straight win by defeating Piedmont 15-6 on Tuesday in Demorest, Ga.
Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) scored five goals, including four in the first half as Centre built a 7-1 lead, and 10 players in all scored in Centre's balanced attack. Sumner Franklin (Louisville, Ky.) scored two goals with an assist while Peter Murphy (Louisville, Ky.) had a goal to go with a game-high four assists.
Also scoring goals for the Colonels were Mitchell Kraus (Louisville, Ky.), Patrick Evans (Louisville, Ky.), Joey Lencewicz (Gates Mills, Ohio), Matt Hughes (Vero Beach, Fla.), Wesley Hardman (Narragansett, R.I.), Corey Krill (Louisville, Ky.) and Austin Zehnder (Prospect, Ky.). Nick Green led Piedmont with three goals.
The game got off to a slow start offensively with Centre holding a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Piedmont got on the board with a goal a minute into the second quarter, but Centre took charge after that, scoring the next five.
Piedmont scored twice in the closing minutes to make the score 7-3 by halftime, but that margin matched the closest the Lions would get. Each team scored twice in the third quarter to keep the lead at four goals, but Centre dominated the beginning of the fourth, sco0ring six straight goals to go up 15-5.
Centre took 48 shots to Piedmont's 34 in the game with Bryce McCoy (Hudson, Ohio) and Dale Morley each making 12 saves in goal for their respective teams. The Colonels also held a 35-27 edge in ground balls and a 12-11 advantage in face offs.
Centre improves to 4-3 on the year while Piedmont falls even at 5-5. The Colonels continue their road trip at Millsaps on Friday.
