Colonels reach 10 wins with 15-7 victory over Southwestern
The Centre men's lacrosse team picked up its 10th win of the season with a 15-7 victory over Southwestern in a Southern Collegiate Athletic contest Friday night at Farris Stadium.
Fresh off an eight goal performance in the Colonels' last game, sophomore attacker Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) followed with seven goals, including five in the second half, to lead Centre. Zack Connors (Louisville, Ky.) had a team-high six assists to go along with a goal while Peter Murphy (Louisivlle, Ky.) added three goals and three assists for the Colonels, who never trailed in the game.
Centre got out to a commanding lead, going up 6-1 by holding Southwestern to one goal over the first 27 minutes of play and taking a 7-3 lead to halftime. The Colonels quickly went up 10-3 after scoring the first three goals of the second half before Southwestern responded with three of the next four to pull within 11-6 by the end of the third quarter. Centre put the game away by scoring four straight in the fourth quarter to go up by as many as nine at 15-6.
Also scoring goals for Centre were Patrick Evans (Louisville, Ky.), Harry Meisner (Cincinnati, Ohio), Sam Rush (Cornelius, N.C.) and Wes Hardman (Narragansett, R.I.). Goalie Clayton Brown (Louisville, Ky.) made eight saves.
Centre outshot Southwestern 40-30, held a 37-26 edge in ground balls and a 13-11 advantage in face-offs.
The win improves Centre's record to 10-2 overall with a 5-1 mark in SCAC play while Southewestern falls to 4-10 overall and 4-3 in the conference. The Colonels take on Dallas in their final home game of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. at Farris Stadium.
