Centre concluded its spring break trip with a 17-8 win over Hendrix in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference lacrosse action Sunday in Conway, Ark.
After playing four road games in eight days, the win brings the Colonels' record to 2-2 on the trip 6-2 for the season and 1-1 in SCAC play. Hendrix drops to 1-7 over all and 0-2 in the conference.
Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) scored six goals while teammates Wesley Hardman (Narragansett, R.I.) and Peter Murphy (Louisville, Ky.) each scored three times for the Colonels, who pulled away by dominating the fourth quarter.
Centre scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed, but Hendrix tied the score three times and remained in the game until the final quarter. The Colonels went up 6-2 early in the second quarter before Hendrix rallied with four straight goals to tie the score at six.
Murphy scored with one second on the clock to go up 7-6 at halftime, and the teams continued to trade scores until the game was tied at eight with 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter. It was at that point when Centre took over the game, scoring the final nine goals, including three while a man up, while keeping Hendrix off the scoreboard for the final 26 minutes.
Also scoring for Centre were Scott Hughes (Chattanooga, Tenn.), who had two goals and Zack Connors (Louisville, Ky.), who had a goal with a team-high three assists, as well as Sam Rush (Cornelius, N.C.) and Phillip Malloy (Louisville, Ky.), who each found the net once. Goalie Clayton Brown (Louisville, Ky.) made 21 saves and picked up nine ground balls.
The Colonels return home to host Sewanee on Friday.
