At St Xavier High School (class of 2010) in Louisville, KY, where he played JV soccer and earned three Varsity Letters in Lacrosse, he earned captain his senior year. In addition, he was a 3-time All-State player, and an All-American in 2010. He is son of Marc Murphy and Giselle Berwanger – Marc is a Notre Dame graduate and works as a lawyer, while Giselle is a LSU graduate and works in sales. He has two brothers: John, who attended Trinity and is a Bellarmine grad; and Jay, who is a freshman at Trinity this year. He has participated in community service as a volunteer at the Nativity Academy, and at Providence College, where he worked with the Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Club of America. He has worked at River City Sports Arena, the Southwest YMCA in Louisville, and has coached lacrosse at the U15 level. He was a honors student at Saint Xavier, and last year attended Providence College, where he played lacrosse – scoring one goal and two assists.
