Centre field hockey blanks Roanoke 3-0

The Centre College field hockey team evened its overall record with a 3-0 win over Roanoke College Saturday, Oct. 13 in Salem, Va.

With their fourth shutout win of 2012, the Colonels improve to 6-6 overall, while Roanoke falls to 4-9.

Junior Alexis Hebert (Chapel Hill, N.C.) opened the scoring with her seventh goal of the season off an assist from junior Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) to give Centre a 1-0 lead at the 17:38 mark in the opening period.

Kuiper then tied Hebert for the team lead in goals with her seventh score of the season at the 58:34 mark in the second half. Senior Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) had the assist, her fourth of the year.

Just over three minutes later, junior Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) finished the scoring with her fifth goal. Kuiper tallied her second assist of the match to extend her team lead to 10.

Centre out-shot the Maroons 12-4 and had a 7-4 edge in penalty corners. Senior CeCe Lindsey (Louisville, Ky.) earned the shutout win in goal for the Colonels. Lindsey stopped both shots she faced.

Centre will travel to Louisville, Ky. Wednesday, Oct. 17 for a non-conference match against Bellarmine University. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
