Colonels fall 5-2 to Lynchburg in field hockey

Tied at one apiece after one half of play, the Centre College field hockey team was out-scored 4-1 in the second half to fall 5-2 to Lynchburg College Friday, Oct. 12 in Lynchburg, Va.

Lynchburg's Shelly Milks scored an unassisted goal 12:17 into the opening period to give the Hornets an early 1-0 lead.

Just over 12 minutes later, Centre senior Sydney White (Louisville, Ky.) tied the match at 1-1 with her fourth goal of the season. Junior Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) had the assist, her eighth of the year.

Lynchburg's Kelsey Link opened the second half scoring with a goal 5:14 in off an assist from Courtney Gillete.

Ashley Nelson, Millks and Katie Kline then scored three unanswered goals to push the lead to 5-1 before sophomore Elizabeth Jessee (Louisville, Ky.) scored with less than 10 minutes to play for the final 5-2 tally.

Lynchburg (11-3) out-shot the Colonels 23-10 and had a 7-3 edge in penalty corners. Senior CeCe Lindsey (Louisville, Ky.) took the loss in goal for Centre. Lindsey made nine saves in the defeat.

Centre, now 5-6 overall, will next play Roanoke College Saturday, Oct. 13 in Salem, Va. Start time is set for 12 p.m.
