Field hockey blanks Hendrix 2-0 in SAA Action
After dropping a 1-0 decision earlier in the year in Danville, the Centre College field hockey team returned the favor with a 2-0 shutout win over Hendrix College Sunday, Oct. 7 in Conway, Ark.
With the win, the Colonels evened their overall record at 5-5 and SAA record at 3-3, while the Warriors fall to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Neither team was able to score in the first half, but 3:27 into the second period junior Sydney White (Louisville, Ky.) scored her third goal of the season off an assist from junior Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) for a 1-0 lead.
Kuiper then made it a 2-0 match with her fifth goal of the season at the 54:11 mark. Freshman Erin Mays (Louisville, Ky.) had the assist, her fifth of 2012.
The Centre defense and junior Kathryn Higgins (Kildare, Ireland) did the rest. The Colonels out-shot Hendrix 12-4 and Higgins stopped both shots she faced.
Centre will next play Lynchburg at 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 in Lynchburg, Va.
