Colonels blast Transylvania 6-1 in field hockey action
Playing as members of the same conference for the first time, the Centre College field hockey team defeated Transylvania 6-1 Saturday, Sept. 29 in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels (4-4, 2-2 SAA) wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard as senior Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) scored 6:45 into the first half off an assist from junior Alexis Hebert (Chapel Hill, N.C.)
Hebert then assisted junior Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) on the second goal of the match at the 18:41 mark for a 2-0 Centre lead.
Parks added her second goal of the game at the 22:05 mark, this time unassisted for a 3-0 advantage.
Just over one and a half minutes later senior Erin Bacon (Williamsburg, Va.) got into the act with the Colonels fourth goal. Hebert tallied her third assist on score.
Centre added one more in the first half as junior Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) scored off an assist from Parks with only 52 second left on the clock.
The Pioneers (1-8 overall, 0-4 SAA) scored their only goal at the 58:50 mark in the second half, but senior Sydney White (Louisville, Ky.) answered with a goal at the 65:45 mark to seal the 6-1 win.
Centre dominated the game with 39 total shots to only six for Transylvania. The Colonels also led 9-5 in penalty corners. Junior Kathryn Higgins (Kildare, Ireland) earned the win in goal. Higgins made two saves in the win.
Centre will host the University of Kentucky Club team in an exhibition Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in Danville, and then will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to play Rhodes Saturday, Oct. 6.
