Humphries and Parks earn SCAC Player of the Week honors

Centre senior Sarah Humphries (Baltimore, Md.) has been selected as the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week and sophomore Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) has been named the SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday, October 25 through Sunday, October 31.

The Colonels closed out their regular season this past weekend, as they faced conference opponent Sewanee on Friday, October 29 in Danville, Ky., winning by a score of 2-1. On Sunday, November 31 Centre hosted DePauw University and won the match 1-0 in overtime to improve to 11-4 overall and
5-3 in the SCAC.

Humphries a defender for the Colonels capped her solid career with two excellent performances in the backfield this past weekend, as Centre sealed the #3 seed in the SCAC Championship this coming weekend. During the two matches Humphries helped lead the backs in controlling both matches with superb ball possession and distribution. She also came up big in key moments with a number of one-v-one open field tackles.

Humphries and fellow teammate senior Cynthia Morse (Louisville, Ky.) have won more games for the Centre field hockey program (48) than any other class in school history.

Parks, a forward for the Colonels, recorded an assist and a game-winning goal in the Colonels wins over SCAC rivals Sewanee and DePauw. Parks led the Centre attack by using her speed and skill to create several shot opportunities.

In the Colonels match against Sewanee, Parks set-up freshman Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) for Centre's first goal. She then provided Centre with the victory over DePauw by scoring the game winning goal in overtime.

On the season Parks has a team leading six assists and five goals.

Centre will open the conference tournament with a match against DePauw on Saturday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. in Greencastle, Ind.
