Centre bounces back with 7-0 win over Transylvania in field hockey
One day after dropping a hard-fought 1-0 match to NCAA Division II member Bellarmine University, the Centre College field hockey team defeated Transylvania University 7-0 Saturday, Oct. 23 in Lexington, Ky.
The win improves the Colonels record to 10-3 overall, while Transylvania falls to 1-11 this year. It was the second win over the Pioneers for Centre this year as the Colonels posted an 11-0 win back on October 2 in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels scored five times in the first half led by freshman Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.). Klein scored the first goal of the match and the last goal of the first half to give her nine for the season.
Sophomore Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and freshman Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) also scored a pair of goals each. Kuiper scored the second goal of the match and the first of the second half, and Parks scored the third goal and the last goal.
Junior Katy Meyer (Louisville, Ky.) scored the fourth goal of the match while freshman Leah Storch (Louisville, Ky.) had an assist in the win.
Centre out-shot Transylvania 23-3 on the day and had a 16-4 advantage in penalty corners. Junior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) earned the win in goal for the Colonels stopping all three shots she faced.
Centre will next return home to host Sewanee-University of the South Friday, Oct. 29. The match is set to start at 5 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
