Field hockey wins 1-0 over Ohio Wesleyan

Having yet to be scored on in 2010, the Centre College field hockey team posted its third straight shutout victory to start the season defeating Ohio Wesleyan University 1-0 Saturday, Sept. 11 at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.

The Colonels, which have now out-scored opponents 7-0 in three matches, improve to 3-0, while Ohio Wesleyan falls to 2-2 this year. It's the first time since 2008, Centre has posted three straight shutouts. The Colonels tallied four straight shutout wins that year.

Following a scoreless first half, Centre's Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) hit the back of the cage for an unassisted goal and the game-winner.

Centre out-shot the Ohio Wesleyan 33-7 and held a 15-13 advantage in penalty corners. Junior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) earned the win in goal for the Colonels. Cowley stopped all six shots she faced.

Centre will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 12 to host Denison University at 4 p.m. at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
