No. 22 Birmingham Southern finishes off sweep of Centre in baseball action
No. 22 Birmingham Southern won for the 19th time in the last 20 games defeating Centre 8-2 Saturday, April 7 in Birmingham, Ala.
With the win, the Panthers complete the three-game sweep and improve to 24-6 overall and 9-0 in the SCAC, while Centre falls to 11-19 overall and 1-7 in league play.
The Colonels found themselves in a 6-0 hole after four innings. Senior catcher Cameron Fishman (Northridge, Calif.) hit a two-run single in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-2, but the Panthers added a run in the seventh and another in the eighth for the 8-2 victory.
Sophomore pitcher Kyle Neu (Cincinnati, Ohio) allowed six runs, including only two earned runs, in six innings to get the loss.
Fishman and junior Jason Osterman (Monroe, Ohio) combined for four of the Colonels seven hits on the afternoon.
Centre will next travel to Crestview Hills, Ohio Wednesday, April 11 for a non-conference game against Thomas More College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
